Without hesitation, Fernando ran to the supervisor\u2019s office to request paramedics and asked a colleague to get the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) unit from the wall before returning to provide first aid.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_DFW_MTX_Fernando_De_La_Rosa_Real_American_Hero-Nov-2021-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14984 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_DFW_MTX_Fernando_De_La_Rosa_Real_American_Hero-Nov-2021-3-400x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>\u201cMark was in a bad way; he didn\u2019t hit his head but was convulsing on the floor and there was only moments to help. I have some first aid training, spotted the symptoms and knew that we needed an AED quick,\u201d said Fernando. \u201cIt was like the movies when they say \u2018clear!\u2019 and he jumped! \u2013 We followed instructions until I was able to hand over to a DFW firefighter and other paramedics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Fernando\u2019s quick thinking when faced with an unexpected emergency, he was able to save his colleague\u2019s life. To recognize this achievement, earlier this week, Envoy DFW Maintenance Base Manager\u00a0<strong>Ernie Jackson<\/strong>\u00a0presented Fernando with a\u00a0<strong>Real American Hero<\/strong>\u00a0award, which comes with a $1,000 cash prize and a very special hero cape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt like forever but all this happened in less than five minutes,\u201d adds Fernando. \u201cI\u2019m glad that I was able to difference and that Mark is on the mend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Way to be awesome, Fernando!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_DFW_MTX_Fernando_De_La_Rosa_Real_American_Hero-Nov-2021-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14982 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_DFW_MTX_Fernando_De_La_Rosa_Real_American_Hero-Nov-2021-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While preparing to tow an aircraft from our DFW Maintenance hangar to the line, Envoy Aircraft Mechanic\u00a0Fernando De La Rosa noticed his colleague collapse and fall to the floor.
