They are given the chance to connect, share their stories, and hear from experts in hopes they can find a positive outlook on the diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Envoy First Officer <strong>Pietro Marsala<\/strong> was invited to speak to the 600-plus attendees about his experience living with the diagnosis. Pietro is a great example of perseverance and pursuing one\u2019s dreams \u2014 he is the first type-1 diabetic to be certified by the FAA to fly commercially and carry a first-class medical certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_Blog_Pietro-Marsala_diabetes_aug-4-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_Blog_Pietro-Marsala_diabetes_aug-4-4.jpg\" alt=\"Envoy pilot stands at podium giving speech to a conference\" \/><\/a>\n<figcaption><strong><em>First Officer Pietro Marsala on stage during his presentation at the event. (Photo courtesy of Pietro Marsala)<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Pietro shared his journey of helping change FAA regulations around pilots taking insulin, therefore creating opportunities for future aviators who share his diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t my goal to be the first,\u201d Pietro said. \u201cI just wanted a change in regulations so that kids growing up with diabetes today aren\u2019t denied the opportunity to fly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The gift of hope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_Blog_Pietro-Marsala_diabetes_aug-4-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16188\" src=\"https:\/\/www.envoyair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_Blog_Pietro-Marsala_diabetes_aug-4-3.jpg\" alt=\"Envoy pilot with young girl at diabetes conference\" \/><\/a>\n<figcaption><em><strong>First Officer Pietro Marsala shows off his insulin patch in solidarity with a young girl.
