First observed in 1968, now celebrated annually between September 15 and October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time dedicated to acknowledging and appreciating the cultural contributions Hispanic people have made to United States history. In this series, we’re highlighting some of our own employees to learn more about their personal connection to the holiday and how they celebrate it.

This week, we spoke with Argelio Bolanos who is the Manager of Regulatory Affairs for the Safety, Security & Environmental team.

What is your Envoy story?

I’ve been with Envoy for 25 years. I’ve held several positions in the Flight Training Department and Regulatory Affairs. As the Manager Regulatory Affairs, my current day-to-day responsibilities include being the liaison between Envoy and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

We provide support to all departments as related with the FAA, and provide support to the FAA as related to Envoy. Basically, it’s all FAA all the time.

What’s the significance of National Hispanic Heritage Month to you? Do you have any favorite historical figures?

It is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions, influence, and culture of Hispanics in American history. It is a time to be proud of our rich and diverse history.

I am a big baseball fan, so one of my favorite historical figures would be Roberto Clemente. Although I never saw him play, he was a great player and helped shape the game of baseball. He was also very much involved in charity and humanitarian work.

Who in your life has inspired you or is your role model?

My parents were instrumental in my life, but my mom has inspired me the most in my life. She has always been there for me, supported me, and encouraged me in everything that I did and still do even now.

How do you like to show your Hispanic pride?

I try to speak Spanish as much as I can. Also, I was born in Nicaragua, and my family moved to the U.S. when I was a little boy. I’m thankful to be a U.S. citizen. I try to show all of this as much as possible.

Tell us one surprising fact about yourself that others may not know.

In my spare time, I enjoy running and working out. I have run 12 marathons and a few other shorter races. I hope to run more races in the future.

“I was born in Nicaragua, and my family moved to the U.S. when I was a little boy.”
